SWD Club Events Back With a Bang!!

30th Anniversary, Championship Show, Gundog Training and Water Work are all now available to book!

As things return back to some sort of normal, the Spanish Water Dog Club have gone full throttle in organising events for 2022. First up is our Fourth Club Championship Show. Taking place on Saturday 7th May 2022, in conjunction with the The National Dog Show at Staffordshire County Showground, and kindly sponsored by Royal Canin, this years show will be judged by Mrs Sheila Burditt. Postal entries are open until Saturday 9th April 2022, whilst online entries can be made up until 12 noon on Saturday 23rd April 2022 via www.highampress.co.uk

Hot on the heels of the champ show is our Gundog Training Day. Following on from the success of the training day and working test held in 2021, we are pleased to announce that we have once again secured the kind services of Judy Hempstead; The Kennel Club's Accredited Instructor (KCAI) 2021/2022 Trainer of the Year. Split into 2 sessions on the 21st May 2022, the training will be held at The Willows Training Ground in Standlake, Oxon. These sessions are open to all levels of ability, but dogs should be at least 6 months old to train and it is recommended that they have a basic level of obedience. Numbers are strictly limited so it is advised that you register your interest early. For any further information or to secure a place on the day please contact our Gundog Co-ordinator Jane Appleton via email at jrappleton9@gmail.com - https://www.spanishwaterdogclub.co.uk/events

We are excited to announce that Water Training this year is hitting the road!! We hope by bringing it on tour it will assist and encourage members who may previously have wanted to try the training but couldn't make it to come and have a go ! Adopting our breeds historic aptitude for working in the oceans, this years training will be conducted at beach locations across two weekends in June. First up on the 11th & 12th June, our resident water trainer Kate Wilden will be travelling north to the beautiful Silver Sands Beach, at Aberdour in Fife, Scotland, before making the long journey to the South of the UK for training on the 18th & 19th June at the gorgeous Brean Beach in Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset. On each weekend Saturday training will be completed in group sessions of 2 hours, consisting of no more than 6 dogs, working towards the SWD Club Water Awards. For those looking for a more focused session, additional 1-to-1 training will be available on Sunday's with each 20 minutes session seeking to build on and refine existing skills. As with all the events detailed in this blog, further information can be found in the Events page on the Clubs website, which can be accessed directly by clicking here. Spaces are limited so please ensure you book early by completing the form found on the events page and returning it to water.swdc@gmail.com

Last and certainly by no means least 2022 is a cause for celebration. It is 30 years this year since the Canagua partnership was formed and four friends from the UK made the decision to import the first of our curly coated companions, that we all know and love, to these shores. To celebrate this monumental anniversary we are hosting a 2 day event across the 16th & 17th July at Edingale Village Hall in Tamworth. There will be a host of events across the two days including a demonstration by our club's Patron, Señor Antonio Garcia Perez, who is considered the founding father of the breed. In addition there will be plenty of games and activities for you and your dogs to enjoy, refreshments, an evening auction and a companionship show on the Sunday morning. We would love to see as many of curly coated friends and their owners as possible to join us in celebrating this historic occasion. Further details about the weekend, along with an application form and accommodation can all be found on the Events page of the club website Spanish Water Dog Club | Events

Announcing ... 30 years SWD 'Roll of Honour'

As part of the 30th Year celebrations, SWD Club and SWD Rescue thought that it would be a great opportunity to come together to remember some of the amazing SWDs that have helped to build our history. We plan to feature these dogs in Newsplash, the SWD Club website, SWD Rescue Facebook group and on displays at future events.

If you would would like to nominate an SWD to be added to the 'Roll of Honour', please email

with pictures of the dogs and a few sentences to say why they should be included in the 'Roll of Honour'.

Please note you do not have to own the SWD in order to nominate them.

This truly is an exciting year! It's great to be back and we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible over the coming months.
