We had been aware that Leeds Country Show had to be cancelled due to strong storm winds, but undaunted, our amazing team of Spanish Water Dogs and their owners looked after our breed stand at Cheshire Game Fair this year. This was the first time we had been represented there since before Covid, so well done everyone! There was no Minority Spaniel Breeds marquee provided at this event, so Committee member, Aarron Kehoe, kindly supplied and set up his gazebo for our members to use. Our representatives with Aarron and Becky Kehoe, were our Club President, Faye Allen, founder member, Diane Phillipson, and Karen and Sean, with 18 month old bitch Mariposa.
Two weeks later, our SWDs were back in the public eye at the Sandringham Game and Country Fair. This time we were delighted to be basking in the glorious Norfolk autumn sunshine. Here we were provided with a lovely big marquee to shelter our individual breed pens. It was great to welcome Karen, Sean and Mariposa back with us and to have new volunteer, Andy Redfern with Curly, confidently take part at the pen and the arena gun dog training display with Linda and Jane and their dogs.
This was run by Judy Hempstead, who ably runs an informative commentary to explain how our dogs are working with hunting up, steadiness to shot and retrieving the dummies alongside the Minority Retriever breeds. We all join in a breed parade each day, when we are able to speak over the microphone about our dogs to the gathered crowd.
We have had a fun and productive time over the summer, with many members of the public able to meet our wonderful breed for the first time.
We are looking forward to flying the SWD flag again through next year. Meanwhile, enjoy your dogs!
