Your guide to Crufts, DD volunteering, working test, and more in early 2026

With spring just around the corner, we’re thrilled to share a line-up of fantastic events and opportunities for our club members and fellow dog lovers. Whether you’re a seasoned exhibitor, a newcomer, or simply passionate about our brilliant breed, there’s something for everyone in the next few months. Read on for all the details and how to get involved!

First on the list is CRUFTS 2026 !

Mark your calendars for one of the biggest highlights in the canine calendar:

Crufts 2026 at the NEC Birmingham, running from Thursday 5 March until Sunday 8th March, with Gundogs on the last day. It’s a wonderful chance for Spanish Water Dogs to shine in front of dog enthusiasts from across the UK and beyond. Whether you’re entering your dog or coming along to support our community, it’s an event not to be missed. The day will be packed with excitement, camaraderie, and, of course, some friendly competition. We encourage everyone to attend, cheer on our lovely dogs, and celebrate their unique talents!

Part of the event that is Crufts, is the hall dedicated to Discover Dogs.

All breed clubs are invited to represent their breeds in their dedicated stands at during Crufts. This is your chance to share your knowledge, passion, and experience with the thousands of visitors keen to learn more about our unique breed. Volunteering with your dogs on the breed stand is a rewarding experience—you’ll meet like-minded people, answer questions, and help promote responsible dog ownership. If you’re interested in volunteering, please get in touch with the Hon Sec on sec.SWDC@gmail.com as soon as possible. Prior experience is preferred however, if it's your first time, we will ensure you are paired with more experienced volunteers.

Just a reminder that we are hosting another working test on 22 March at Rickneys Training Ground in Ware, with Judges Chris and Carol Page, who are great supporters of our breed and Club. Please get in touch with Hon Sec (as above) or Gundog Sec Jane Appleton on jrappleton9@gmail.com for more details and to book your space.

AGM - we are just finalising arrangements for our 23rd AGM and more information will follow soon, including invitation for nominations to Committee.

Part of our AGM also includes the celebration of our breed Ambassadors - whether it be in the show ring, volunteering at Breed Appreciation Days, Game Fairs and DD and those who represent our breed in other competitive fields, such as Water Work, Agility, Scent work. Some of these awards are based on points gained and wins, and others are based on nominations from our members. More information to follow soon.

This spring is bursting with opportunities to celebrate, learn, and enjoy everything that makes the Spanish Water Dog community so special. Whether you’re helping at Crufts, taking part in the working test, or joining us at the AGM, your involvement is what keeps our club thriving. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or want to get involved—we’re always happy to welcome new members.
