About The Judges
Mr Frank Gilroy (Claychalk)
I have been asked by the club to say a say few words about myself so here goes.
I started in Labradors in 1984, and started judging in 1990, I was delighted to have been passed to award C.C.s in my first breed, I have had the honour to have judged in Europe and all over the U.K.
Helen bought me my first Spanish Water Dog 11 years ago for my old age (so she said), and have been interested in the breed for 3 years prior to acquiring our girl. We now own 3 Spanish 2 girls and a boy, I am also on the main committee, as well s on the judges committee, I am also the main name for Scotland to help out on Spanish rescue and rehoming.
Mrs Carolyn Adkins-Fry (Bedeslea) - Special Award Judge
I first judged at Open level in 1989 in my chosen breeds – Retriever (Goldens) and Spinoni – and enjoyed learning about all the Gundog breeds at work and in the show ring. My early dogs were all worked in the field and some were trialled and ran in working tests successfully. In 1994 I bought in a Zanfi-bred Irish Water Spaniel and she became part of the team too. I now enjoy showing and working (Rally, Truffle-hunting and Mantrailing) my small kennel of Lagotti. Over 20 Stud Book entries carry my affix, five UK Sh Champions, four FT award winners and a number of AKC titleholders.
I awarded my first set of CCs to Spinoni in 1996 and added Bracchi, Goldens and recently the Lagotto Romagnolo too. A fifth Gundog breed is currently in process.
When the Spanish Water Dog arrived in the UK, I was immediately drawn to the special temperament and outline of the breed and have enjoyed following their progress and gaining hands-on experience in Groups and breed classes at Open Shows. Alongside the other Water Dogs, I shall enjoy the learning process. Thank you very much to the SWDC for inviting me to judge at your show and to the Spanish fraternity for bringing your dogs today.
