About The Judges
Mr Steve Hall
I first exhibited in 1973 with an Old English Sheepdog and a couple of years later we purchased a Bearded Collie, along with my wife we bred and owned champions in both breeds, then along came the docking ban in 2007 which we decided to change our breed because we did not want an OES with a tail. Along with my wife and eldest daughter we purchase a Lhasa Apso Bitch from the Sealaw lines of Mr Geoff Corish, this bitch became a champion and we have made up seven Lhasa Champions to date, we also made up two champion Shih Tzu’s.
Regarding my judging experience my first appointment was way back in April 1977, my first set of CCs was at the SKC in 1984, I class myself as very lucky to have done what I have done in our sport as I now award CCs in around 50 breeds over four groups and Best in Show at championship shows in the UK. I have judged two groups at Crufts and 15 breeds; I was the first judge to have the pleasure to judge the first Import Register at Crufts and the last judge to judge the Breeders Stakes in the main arena. My overseas appointments have taken me to many states in the USA, Barbados several times, Jamaica, Trinidad, Japan, Dubai, Sri Lanka, India, and every country in Europe.
Mrs Helen Gilroy - Special Award Judge
I have been asked by the Club to say a few words about myself so here goes, I started in Labradors in 1984 and started judging in 1990. I was delighted to have been passed to award C.C’s in my first breed, I have had the honour to have judged in Europe and all over the UK.
Frank bought me my first Spanish Water Dog 11 years ago for my old age (so he said) as I could no longer keep up with the Labradors in the ring, and have been interested in the breed for three years prior to acquiring our girl. We now own three Spanish, two girls and a boy.
Frank now handles them in the ring as I no longer can keep up with this athletic breed, and now I do all the grooming and training.
I am very honoured and delighted to have been asked to judge the Special Classes at our breed Open Show in September.
