About The Judges

Tracy Boyles (Bleyos)

have been showing my dogs since 1973 beginning with a Golden Retriever that was a family dog, then acquiring two Irish Setters, being at school at this point I attended a lot of local shows and won very well, by this time I had developed the bug for showing dogs.

I was encouraged to begin judging at this point starting with match nights around the local towns. It has mainly been gundogs that I have owned over the years. I have shown my dogs all over the UK, Europe and have been to several world dog shows, we have made up four dogs in Europe and have two international champions.

My interest for the Spanish Water Dogs began in 2017 when I attended a seminar for the breed, I then began watching them at shows and have seen them grow in popularity over the years, I have judged the breed several times over the years.

Adrian Dornford-Smith (FiveNinePlus)

I believe that the Spanish Water Dog is not a show dog, not a gundog, not a herding dog, indeed not even a water dog. However, they are great at showing. We (FiveNinePlus) have bred and exhibited two International Champions and three Irish Show Champions, exhibited two further Irish Show Champions and we are a small kennel.

They are brilliant at gundog work as many others can testify. They are still successfully, self-reliantly used for herding in their native country.

They are fantastic in the water. The SWD Club encourages their water work abilities via the Water Work Award scheme. My two have their level 2 awards.

Generally, they can turn their brains and paws to anything. Mine have their Rally Level 2 excellent and Rally Level 3 excellent titles in turn. They got to grade 5 and a Bronze Agility Warrant and currently compete at Grade 3 respectively in Agility and are at Novice level in Competition Obedience.

I carry this ethos through to my judging where “Fit for Form, Fit for function” is so true for this uniquely versatile breed and has been for a thousand years. Long, long may that continue.
