About The Judges
Carol Palumbo (Rainethyme)
I owned my first dog, a Bearded Collie, in 1987. I started showing in 1988 and was very quickly 'bitten by the show bug' and I was given the opportunity to handle for one of the top kennels.
I have shown/bred may Beardies and dabbled in obedience with some of them.
I served as Show Secretary/Manager for Southern Counties Bearded Collie Club for some years.
I first became aware of Spanish Water Dogs through a friend and in December 2007 her Spanish Water Dog came to stay for a short holiday. I loved her personality and how she fitted in with my Beardies. I quickly became a fan.
I currently own and co-own three SWD's that have gained entry into the KC Stud Book, two of which are champions.
I thoroughly enjoy watching SWD's across all disciplines.
I have previously served as Show Secretary for the SWD Club which I did enjoy.
I would like to thank the Club for the opportunity of judging the Breed Club Open Show and I am very much looking forward to it.
Linda Thorogood (Harrifield)
I have been owned by Clumber Spaniels since 1985 when my husband decided he would like a roughshooting dog. We acquired a 3 year old in 1985 who was basic trained for the field.
However you first own or are owned by a dog he goes everywhere, including Summer fairs etc. As a result of entering an 'Exemption Show' as they were known then at a local Summer Fair, which we won, we became involved. It was run by Tunbridge Wells and District Canine Society and have served with the Society since then.
The rest is history. We did continue with Working Tests, but showing took over. I now have the privilege of awarding CCs in Clumbers, Sussex, English Springers and approved in Welsh Springers. I judge all Gundogs, Groups and BIS at Open level as well as Working Assessments and Good Citizens.
Thank you for the invitation to judge. It is a great pleasure.
Kindly sponsored by VetSpec, Sunday 7th May 2023 saw the welcome return of the Club Open Show, having last been hosted in September 2021.
Hosted at the Staffordshire County Showground, within the confines of the National Dog Show 2023 organised by the Birmingham Dog Show Society, the weekend was one of historic note, coinciding with the Coronation of King Charles III. His highness became the thirteenth British monarch to have been coronated since the political union of Kingdom of England and the Kingdom of Scotland on the 1st May 1707, and the sixty second monarch since rule was established over Anglo-Saxon England in the year 827AD. To celebrate, many of the competitors bought along food and drink to share with one another, whilst toasting the King and enjoying the opportunity to catch up with fellow Spanish owners.
This years show comprised of 45 dogs making up 51 entries for the main show, whilst 13 dogs were also entered for the Special Award Classes, which are specifically put on by the club, with the permission of the Kennel Club, in an endeavour to assist a prospective judge to progress up the Judges List.
