Held in conjunction with the City of Birmingham Championship Show at Stoneleigh Park near Coventry, The Spanish Water Dog Club Open Show took place on Sunday 1st September 2019. Sponsored by Royal Canin, a total of 45 dogs made up the 50 entries within the main show. Additional classes were also held for Junior Handling, whereby the entrants were judged not on the dog, but on the capabilites of the handler in presenting the dog in the ring.
The open show also incorporated three extra Special Award Classes. These classes are specifically put on by the club, with the permission of the Kennel Club, in an endeavour to assist prospective judges to progress up the Judges List. It allows judges, newly qualified or seeking additional experience, the opportunity to examine and judge the Spanish Water Dog breed by gaining a captive audience of owners of the breed who are present at the show.
Best in Show was won by the Best Bitch and winner of the Post Graduate Bitch class, Sierrasalva's Regalo
Reserve Best in Show and best dog was won by Sh Ch Casper De Agua Salada
Best Puppy in show was taken by the Puppy Bitch winner Oh You Are Magic vom Hause Kristo of Goldfly (Imp)
Best Vetran in Show was awarded to Valentismo's Olli Dante from the Vetran Dog Class

2019 Championship Show

On Saturday 29th June the 2019 Spanish Water Dog Club Championship Show took place within the confines of the Windsor Championship Show, located at the beautiful Home Park in Windsor, Berkshire. Sponsored by VetSpec dog food, the show saw 52 dogs make up a total of 65 entries across 20 classes.
Best in Show was won by the Open Bitch class winner Sh Ch Valentismo's Tizi. In also winning the Challenge Certificate for (CC) Best Bitch, she obtained her third CC under a different Judge to make her up to Champion status (subject to Kennel Club confirmation).
Reserve Best in Show and winner of the dog CC went to Valentisimo's Guerrero from the Special Working Dog or Bitch Class.
Best Puppy in show was Chanderhill Cash The Cheque at Donjenki from the Puppy Dog Class
Best Veteran in Show was awarded to Prizelands No Compromise from the Veteran Dog Class

About the Judge
Judging the entries this year was Mr Richard Bott (Quensha and Allenie). Mr Bott has been involved in the world of dogs for over 30 years. In that time he has successfully made up 14 Show Champions in most of the Gundog sub-groups, including five Irish Setters, seven English Setters, a Weimaraner and a Welsh Springer Spaniel. In 2004 he entered the world of Labradors with his partner Anthony Allen and together they have gone on to make up a number of champions including the 2018 top winning Springer Spaniel and Best of Breed at Crufts Sh Ch Art-Waves Standing Ovation for Allenie. Mr Bott has qualified to judge the Gundog Group and award Challenge Certificates (CC's) in 15 Gundog Breeds. He is also qualifed to award CC's to breeds in the Pastoral, Working and Hound Groups
He has watched the Spanish Water Dog breed develop over a number of years. In 2018 he assisted the Judges Breed Education Programme by providing training in conformation of Spanish Water Dogs to propsective judges at the SWD breed judges seminar.
