2024 Water Training

Water Training SWD Club 2024

The Spanish Water Dog Club water training events will continue throughout 2024.

By utilising our Water Training Assessors, we are able to provide training sessions at a wide variety of locations across the UK.  Hopefully you’ll find one that works for you and your dogs.

At present we have 7 dates arranged for 2024, but we will hopefully add to these throughout the year.  Currently, not all of the details have been confirmed.  These will be updated on this page, and on the members Facebook page as it becomes available. 

Each event will have its own lead trainer.  Once booked on, this person will be the point of contact for that particular event.  They will liaise with attendees prior to the training day, and will lead the training and assessment at the event.

We welcome dogs, and their handlers of all abilities and experience.  Once you have submitted your application form (available below), you will be contacted to discuss the programme, timings and your individual requirements.  Details of the dates and locations are as follows:

Programme:

The provisional programme for most of the events will be that you will be allocated a 2 hour time slot with upto 5 other attendees, with similar training needs.  In these sessions we will aim to work through the most appropriate SWD Club Water Award.  Some dogs will take more than one session to complete their current award.

In the Swim4Paws sessions, participants will have 1 – to – 1 sessions, focusing on their partnership needs.  Each session will be 30mins in length, with a break in-between.

Logistics: 

 

Please consider bringing the following items with you:

 

  • Chair (for human)

  • Clothing suitable for the weather, and that you don’t mind getting wet

  • Wetsuit if you are interested in being in the water

  • Suitable head protection

  • Waterproof suntan cream

  • Flask with hot/ cold drinks whichever is more appropriate

  • Water and bowl for your dog

  • Cage, either soft or metal for your dog to relax in when not working

  • Toy that your dog is keen to interact with

  • Treats that your dog is interested in (lots of)

  • 4 point harness or life-jacket for your dog (we may have some that you can borrow)

 

For your information, with the exception of Swim4Paws which is a private indoor venue, the training will be undertaken on public beaches and other public areas.

Water Training SWD Club 2023

The Spanish Water Dog Club are pleased to announce the return of our popular water training events for 2023. 

 

Due to the high demand that we saw in 2022, our amazing head trainer Kate Wilden has been hard at work recruiting and training additional assessors, which has enabled us to bring you more training sessions at more locations across the UK.      

Currently we have 5 dates arranged through May to July.  At present there are a number of details to confirm which will be updated on this page and the members Facebook page as it becomes available.  We may also look to add more dates later in the year, so if you don't manage to get a spot on one the current courses, or you want to go again and take your dog to the next level, bookmark this page and keep checking back.

30th Year Celebration

We are looking forward to celebrating 30 years of Spanish Water Dogs in the UK with you.

 

In May 1992, 4 friends from the UK, watched the judging of the Spanish Water Dogs at the World Dog Show in Valencia, Spain. In October, the Canagua Partnership was formed and the first 2 imports arrived from Spain.   

 

In order to celebrate this prestigious event, we have secured a centrally based village hall where we can gather.  The hall allows dogs inside and has a large outside space that we can use for activities.

 

Details: 

 

Date:  Sat 16 Jul 22 – Sun 17 Jul 22

1st Event Commences:  12 noon to 1pm

Location: Edingale Village Hall, Edingale, Tamworth, B79 9LJ.

Cost: £15 for individual members, £25 for family membership

          £20 for individual non-members, £30 for family non-members

  This will cover:

  • All hot and cold drinks (please bring along mugs for your personal use)

  • Participation in games

  • Entry for one class in the Fun Dog Show (Individual), or entry for two classes (Family/ Joint)

  • Access to information and images of the 30 years of SWDs in the UK

  • A chance to catch up with friends, and your SWD family

  • Use of the hall and facilities

 

We are also intending to have a number of displays/ stands that are relevant to SWDs.

Additional costs:

Additional entries into the Fun Dog Show will be £2 per entry

Breakfast will be available on Sunday from £2.50

Successful bids for the Auction items will need to agreed prior to departure                                                   

 

Accommodation:  We have a small number of tent pitches that attendees can use, for a small fee, over the weekend.  Please indicate if you would like a pitch on your application form.

 

Unfortunately, we are not able to host caravans on this site, however, there are a number of sites within 10 miles of the hall (please see accommodation options document for further details).

Water Training Weekends

SWD Club 2022

 

In 2022 the SWD club has provided Water training activities in the Sea. 

 

This year we are heading out on the road to cover both the North and South to provide training across the UK.  We are hoping this will open up this fantastic activity to members and other SWD owners who may not have had the opportunity to have come to one of our previous sessions.  We are also always on the lookout for new locations to train.  If you know anywhere that may be suitable then please email water.swdc@gmail.com

The next training will be on the 1st and 2nd October 2022 in the region of Fife - exact location to be confirmed - applications closed on 16th Sept 2022

 

We will group attendees with similar needs and confirm timings at least two weeks prior to each event - 16th September latest please.

 

We welcome dogs, and their handlers of all abilities and experience.  Once you have submitted your application form (available below), you will be contacted to discuss the programme and individual requirements.

 

We plan to follow a similar programme as previously used and outlined below, but this will be weather dependent, and please be aware that we may have to inform you of changes.
